Lifecycles Lifecycles was part of the exhibition at the Radhuset Gallery in Nykarleby, Finland and was completed during a six week visiting artist residency at the Svenska Konstskolans i Nykarleby Vänner in the spring of 2001. The materials for Lifecyles were gathered on a Sunday afternoon walk along the river that runs through the centre of Nykarleby. The winter snows were finally melting and the snowbanks were giving up treasures that had been locked in winter's grip for months. Seeds, decaying leaves, bark, bits of moss and lichen, pinecones, and small pieces of branches were gathered and put into small plastic envelopes that were then suspended from the gallery ceiling in the shape of an infinity symbol - signifying birth, death and the continuation of life. The shadow cast by the piece was an important part of the installation and as viewers passed the piece their movement would cause the piece and the shadow to move along with them.
