Rainfall
June 2001, commissioned for the illumine Exhibition opening of the Arthur
Erickson Waterfall Building in Vancouver, BC
The Rainfall piece was made in response to the weather on the westcoast
and echoes the Waterfall found at the entrance to the Waterfall Building.
The
piece is made of approximately 200 glass microbiology tubes that are 48
inches in length and are suspended at different levels.
Rain
water was collected over three days and was used to fill the tubes. A
stainless steel plate with cedar supports is suspended over the glass
tubes. Daylight from the window is caught in the glass tubes and casts
shadows of light on the wall, similar to rain caught on windows casting
light and shadows.
